Why I wrote Branded

It seems a lot of people are having a problem getting past the second chapter of Branded. The abuse, fear, and suspense seem to be too much for the everyday person to handle, especially those with children. It's in your face from the beginning. The amusing thing is these are the same people I wrote the book for. These are the people I am trying to reach, but they need to finish the book first. The reason I wrote Branded is to bring awareness to the fact kids are kidnapped every day. I understand the subject of child abduction for sex trade is difficult for some people to deal with, but it's also a reality in today's world. Thousands are reported missing every year. Granted some are runaways, but hundreds are kids taken against their will annually. It doesn’t' matter what neighborhood you live in, how much money you make, or what kind of security system you install, it could still happen to you or your family when you least expect it. People know that...

Have some fun! Feed the fish!

The fish gadget is added to the top and bottom of this blog for your amusement. If you are connected via a feed and cannot see the fish, either click on the below URL or enter it in your address bar to be redirected. http://branded-urgirl.blogspot.com/ Have some fun! Feed the fish! All you have to do is click in the water and food will be scattered. They will go wherever the food is and the cursor. Once you are done, look around and see if you like the site and some of the headlines. If you do, stop and read a few or complete a few polls. I would like the site to be a place you feel comfortable visiting. Let me know if it is not and why. Information is always welcome.

No Book Signing at B&N For Now

Well, I knew it was too good to be true. I went to Barnes and Noble to see about the book signing and get a few more details. It just didn't seem right that they would want to do something for me, only 1 month out of the gate, and my instincts were right on. I was told that the book signing is not going to take place and they cannot order the books either. There seems to be a problem with the way my book is listed in their systems. Once that information is corrected they will try to acquire a few, but the book signing is off until further notice. Now, I am working with CreateSpace and my distribution channels, as well as Barnes and Nobles, regarding the way the book is set up for warehousing. I am also looking for information to have Branded placed on Kindle and the Nook. Then later today, I received a call from Ellen in B&N small press division in New York. She stated books put out by CreateSpace will never be added to their shelves because it is an Amazon...

It's a way for you to keep updated on what is important to me, as a person and as a writer, and at the same time I can learn what is important to you. I would like to know who my readers are and what is important to them. Take a moment to respond to any blog entry. It is encouraged. I want to know what you think. When you do, let me know if you would like a response back. I have included a few links in the right sidebar for you to keep tabs on any updates. Please take advantage of them. Also, take a moment and respond to the poll voting located in the left sidebar. It's another way I can learn more about you. If you have questions just ask. I'm also on Twitter and Facebook.

Book Signing At Barnes and Noble - Cancelled

The luck of the Irish must be on my side today. (Yes, I'm part Irish.) I talked with Barnes and Noble this morning. Since I am a new and a local author in Milwaukee Wisconsin, the Barnes and Noble on South 76th Street is going to order a short stack of my first book "Branded" and asked if I would come in to sign them. Of course I said yes. This would be my first book signing. I am really excited! I figure they should be in by next week. I will keep you posted as to when the day and time is. Again, Barnes and Noble on South 76th Street in Milwaukee, Wisconsin (Near Southridge Mall).

2011 Earthquake in Japan

Image
I cannot believe the extent of the devastation in Japan. The strength and amount of aftershocks those people must endure is incredible. It's like living through an initial earthquake a hundred times over. It was evident that no one was prepared for an 8.9 magnitude earthquake. It's almost as if someone snuck up behind them and grabbed them, giving them no choice but to comply, very similar with the storyline in Branded. With the amount of technology we have today, you would think that someone was able to predict what was going to happen. Japan is known to be technology savvy, and known for having infrastructures to support earthquakes, but still they were hit pretty hard. I guess no matter how prepared you think you are for a surprise attack, you are never prepared enough. My heart goes out to the people who are living through the pain and loss. Mankind is resilient and will survive, but the psychological effects for each one of the survivors will go on forever. Lor...

Marketing A New Book Is Not Easy

Being a new author and marketing a book without professional assistance is not easy. I rely on word of mouth advertising, supplied by my friends, family, and fans to do most of the work. But I guess that's part of the marketing process too. I do realize the subject matter is not easy to swallow, but I felt it was something that had to be told. I want to open the eyes of the public so they may possibly becoming more involved in this matter. How many times have we looked at the faces of missing children on the news, milk cartons, America’s most wanted and not really studied the faces or personality of the victims? Or, been annoyed by the constant Amber alerts, while watching our favorite shows, instead of being concerned for that child? I wanted to do something to change that - to make it personal. Most people think kidnappings or abductions won’t happen to them or someone they know because they live in a safe neighborhood. But it happens more then we kno...

Pancake Breakfast

Attended a pancake breakfast this morning at the Knights of Columbus in Milwaukee. Met some really nice people and had some good food. Didn't realize how much I wanted sausage links until I got there. I met an overly enthusiastic man named Larry who loves to 1-up everyone on a story. Not to say he knows more but in a nice way to be funny. He would even wink at others when making comments. He made me smile. I talked about the book a little and was received with praise and excitment. Not from the subject of the book, but from being someone who actually wrote one. I guess many people want to be writers, but few ever do and the people there were glad to know someone who did. Got some good information on another book seller that might work on consignment. Will keep you informed.

Joined The Experience Project

Just joined the Experience Project which is a blogging site. There you are matched up with other people going through the same experience to just vent or to get information and guidance. After reading some of the personal stories from kids who were kidnapped, I found that Branded is so on the mark. Probably too much. Now the story went from, just being a story with suspense to something really scary, because it's could actually happen. The only difference is most kidnapped are killed and Cat survived.

Branded - A Fiction Book

Image
For those that don't know, Branded is a fictional book about a 12 year old who is kidnapped. It's her story and how she survived. Later, who she fell in love with and why.
